Mapping Mystery: How We Located an Unknown Property Using Just a Photo

Our Services > Realtors > Property Location and Vicinity Mapping

🔍 Have you ever wondered how location experts can find a place based on just one photo? At Students Brain Boost Cooler, we got the chance to flex our mapping skills when a client came to us with a unique challenge:

“Can you tell where this geotagged photo was taken?”

Though the property was unidentified, our team was up for the task. Using a simple, methodical process, we delivered precise results and demonstrated the power of spatial investigation.

Here’s how we cracked the case in three steps:

Faded marble crest or emblem mounted on a wall, featuring a crowned shield with keys, ropes, and Latin motto; partial red and blue coloring visible.

🧭 Our Step-by-Step Workflow

Step 1: Overlay the Photo in Google Earth
We started by importing the geotagged photo into Google Earth. This gave us a general sense of the landscape and surroundings from the original camera position.

Step 2: Open Street View
Once the location was narrowed down, we opened Google Street View to verify building features, angles, and details that matched the original photo.

Step 3: Screenshot Google Earth Street View
After locating the exact spot, we took a screenshot from Google Earth’s Street View to compare and confirm the match.
