Introduction: Project Background and Client Type

This project was led by fourth-year students from the Bachelor of Science in Sanitary Engineering program at Batangas State University - Alangilan Campus, as part of their SE 411 - Sanitary Engineering Design Project I course. Focused on Barangay Macalamcam B in Rosario, Batangas, the study addresses the critical issue of water insecurity in a geographically isolated and underserved rural barangay. With limited access to formal water infrastructure, the community depends on deep wells and untreated sources, exposing residents to health risks. The client requested assistance from the MDRRMO to access vital geospatial and hydrogeological data to support their capstone project, which aims to design a sustainable water supply and treatment system grounded in site-specific conditions.

🌟 Highlights or Unique Considerations

  • The project is part of Batangas State University’s integration of SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation into local research applications

  • It aligns with the Philippine Water Supply and Sanitation Master Plan (PWSSMP) 2019–2030 and Rosario’s Comprehensive Development Plan (2023–2028)

  • A full suite of GIS-based spatial data was used to support EPANET simulations, water tank design, and siting compliance with national standards

  • The team evaluated two design alternatives for the water system—one with an elevated tank and another with a combined cistern-elevated storage configuration

  • The final proposal incorporated population projections, topographic analysis, risk management, and microbiological water quality results, demonstrating high academic rigor and real-world relevance
